CURRICULUM

This is a video from a 4 day residency we did in April 2009 in Eastern Washington. We did songwriting workshops with students from 4 different schools, Orient, Valley, Summit Valley and Inchelium. At each school we did brainstorming free-association object writing exercises to come up with lyrical ideas for a song.

From these ideas we distilled out:

At Valley we wrote the chorus, at Orient the first verse, at Summit Valley the 2nd verse and bridge.

The students also created the chord progression and the melody. At the end of the residency we performed a concert at the Colville Valley High Auditorium and the students came on stage with us to perform their original song, "Run Bunny"

When I returned home I hopped in the studio and recorded a quick instrumental version of the song to use as background music.

A new video from a weeklong songwriting residency in March 2011 in Elyria, OH. We worked with 8 different groups of kids, from 5th grade through Early College high School Students and wrote some great songs with the students!
